The tender for the selection of a private partner for the implementation of an integrated automatic fare collection system (electronic ticket system) through a PPP, concluded with the announcement of preferred bidder.

By decision of the Board of Directors of the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA SA), the candidate TERNA ENERGY - LG CNS was announced preferred bidder and will undertake the funding (50% private funds, 50% EU resources), design, installation, operations support, maintenance and technical management of the system for 12 years and will be repaid during operation, through a payment mechanism based on continuous assessment of the quality of services provided.

The first two information and communication technology (ICT) PPP projects (e-ticket and telematics systems) are part of a comprehensive plan to create a model urban transport system, which aims at improving everyday life of the traveling public and enhancing the level of coordination and productivity of the transportation service providers. At the same time, these projects introduced a new generation of PPP projects in the ICT sector, in which EU funds are used, together with private funds.
